Milton Flyers Clinch Third 3HL Tour Title at 3HL Aurora Dangle Fest

For the third time this season, the Milton Flyers captured a 3HL Tour Event title, this time winning the 3HL Aurora Dangle Fest after knocking off the Toronto Bees 7-3 in the finals.

“This one feels a little sweeter for us I think,” said Flyers netminder Dave Davenport. “We have a ton of local guys on the team so we had a lot of family and friends watching us in the building tonight, including my family. They haven’t seen me play competitive hockey in a while so it was pretty special.”

Davenport continued his stellar 3HL season, bringing his league best record to 10-1 on the year.

The Milton Flyers were led offensively by Newmarket,ON native and Bio Steel Tournament MVP Matt Whitehead. The former SPHL standout tallied three goals and an assist for four points in three games.

“As soon as I heard he was going to play for us, I was excited I didn’t have to face him anymore,” said Davenport with a big smile. “He’s a shifty player with great hands and he’s been a huge add for us and that one goal in the finals was unbelievable.”

Justin DiBendetto also netted four points in the Flyers tournament victory. The former New York Islander and Sarnia Sting star tallied two goals and two assists, bringing his season total to nine.

The Flyers opened up the tournament with a 4-2 win over the London 3’s in the Dangle Fest opener. In the second round, newcomer and 2006 Calgary Flames draft pick Devin DiDiomete found the back of the net less than a minute into OT to send Milton to their second consecutive 3HL finals.

It’s a quick turnaround for the 3HL as they make their sixth tour stop this Saturday as the 3HL Saugeen Shores Sunset Cup comes to The Plex in Port Elgin,Ontario. Tickets are on sale now at or on sight at Outlaw Brewery and the Wismer House.
